Document Scanning For Documents Under 12" x
17"
| Document Sizes: |
- Min size - personal sized check (documents smaller than this need to
be taped down to a larger paper)
- Max size - up to 12" x 17"
- Thickness - .06mm min up to .15mm for auto document feeding and 0.3mm
for manual document feeding
- Single, double sided or mixed documents
|
| Image Resolution: |
- Standard resolutions ranges 100, 150, 200, 240, 300, 400 or 600 dpi
- We typically use either 240 or 300 for b/w and 150 for color
|
| File Formats: |
- TIF - the Tagged-Image File Format (TIFF) is used because it provides
for the best quality images with the smallest file sizes and is recognized though out the industry as the standard
format. The .tif format supports LZW compression, a lossless compression method that does not discard detail from
the image.
- PDF - Scanners do not scan to pdf format. This is a post scanning conversion
please see our pages on PDF Conversion for more details.
- JPG - Sometimes used for special projects for color images.
- BMP - Used in special cases only. bmps's offer no compression and the
files sizes are extremely large.
- Some others rarely used anymore just ask if you have a special requirement
|
| Document settings: |
- Bi-tonal - black and white - smallest file sizes
- Error Diffusion - used for docs with many photographs, but still in
b/w
- Advanced Text Enhancement - for text on a dark background, faint characters
in pencil and text on colored documents
- 256 level (8-bit) Gray
Scale - good for parts manuals with black and white photographs
- 24-bit Color - good for photographs or complete conversions projects.
- Color Drop out for Blue, Red & Green can drop away these colors
so only the data remains. Very powerful for high volume standardized forms processing.
|
| Pagination: |
- Single image - Each page becomes it's own .tif image file. (i.e. page
1 = 0001.tif, page 2 = 0002.tif, page 3 = 0003.tif)
- Multi-image - A range of pages become a single .tif image file (i.e.
page 1, page 2 & page 3 = 0001.tif)
