ArkScan Imaging - A Hybrid Solution
| Step by Step Technique Defined |
The first step of ArkScan or the 'Arc(k)' step of the procedure is to commit all the images to roll microfilm. (or fiche,
roll film is less expensive) Documents smaller than 14"x17" or 'B' size drawings are first committed
to 16mm microfilm.or 105mm
microfiche This ensures that you are provided with a legally
retained back up of you documents. FicheNet Imaging Solutions uses high end TDC Documate IV microfilm cameras
for 16mm and 105mm filming. These
cameras are the finest microfilm cameras EVER made and film at a resolution of over 200 line pairs. That's more
than twice the required standard! Ask our competition what type of cameras they are using.
- The second step of ArkScan or the 'Scan' step is to convert this roll microfilm (or microfiche) to electronic images.
In this step we convert all the microfilm images to Industry Standard Group IV 2D .TIF images. Images can be converted
to PDF files in a post scanning step, but .TIF is the most cost effective and the scanners to no scan to pdf directly.
For this step of the conversion FicheNet Solutions uses state of the art film scanning technology. This equipment is of the finest
film scanners available boasting a resolution of up to 8800dpi. However we use 300dpi as the standard for most
jobs, increased resolution increases file size and throughput time tremendously. (a 300dpi image is almost 2X larger
than the same image at 200dpi. Now imagine how large a 8800dpi image is?!)
- The third step is Indexing is next applied and this can come in too
many forms to be listed here. See Batching & Indexing Services for examples of indexing for both 105mm and 16mm microfilms and for electronic
images. Some of the popular solutions are: FicheNet Imaging Solutions very
own and very robust Barracuda Image Retrieval Software,
(customized to your exact needs) or PDF files. We provide indexing in many
other forms including a simple file tree organized by file and folder names or a simple cross reference index output
to most popular Windows® programs.
Indexing is a very important step for any conversion project and every single job has special requirements. We
can be flexible in this area. Please think carefully about how you wish to retrieve your files and then discuss
them with us to come up with a solution that works just for you.
- The final step is to output the electronic images to current technology
CD-ROM, DVD-ROM or to High Capacity Hard Disk, with duplicates if needed. (output ranges from 7,000 up to around
15,000 documents per CD-R, most jobs are around 12,000 documents.) See Output Media Options for more
storage capacity statistics
- An extra step can executed to the microfilm. This step involves duplicating
the original 16mm and 105mm
microfilm as a 3rd or 4th backup for super extra redundant protection
if needed.
- "Have your film and CD's too!"
